Retreat Lodging and Locale

Finca Hotel Son Palou

A REFUGE OF QUIETNESS IN THE SERRA DE TRAMUNTANA

During our stay and retreat we stay within a stunning UNESCO World Heritage mountain range perfect for road trips and hiking, sheltering quaint villages like Deià, Orient, and Sóller.

Welcome to Son Palou, our 14th-century estate which we have converted into a luxurious countryside hotel, and which is now considered among the best of its kind in Mallorca. The manor house is located high up on top of a hill laced with apple orchards and commands magnificent views over the valley of Orient, in the heart of the Tramuntana mountains.

The Finca Hotel Son Palou offers you 150 hectares of orchards, fields andmountainside to roam and discover. Besides hiking and mountain-bike tours, you might be interested in an introduction into mushroom-picking; and of course you are more than welcome to witness the harvest of the much-acclaimed apples and cherries from our splendid plantations. And maybe sneak a bite or two.

Many of the delicious natural foods that we serve at Son Palou have been grown on our own land. That’s how sustainable organic agriculture finds its way into a refined and refreshed concept of leisure and enjoyment.

This idyllic rural hotel offers the perfect retreat to rest, relax, and recover.

Built in the 14th century, it offers a fantastic blend of modern luxury and convenience, combined with the old-world charm of the traditional architecture.

Son Palou’s 150 hectares of grounds are ideally nestled in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, overlooking the breathtaking Orient valley.

The guest bedrooms offer a blend of stylish and sympathetically selected furniture, which combine to create a magnificent ambience. There is a variety of options available, including a private terrace or Jacuzzi.

An important feature of Son Palou is the distinctive restaurant. It offers traditionally prepared modern Mediterranean cuisine, using the finest local produce, including its own organic ingredients.

The restaurant also boasts an enviable wine cellar, featuring a large selection of fine wines, including a couple from the best local vineyards.

A short distance away is Orient. The village’s quaint beauty makes it hard to believe you are only 25 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Palma. The traditional architecture of the village’s 25 houses complements the beautiful backdrop of the Tramuntana.

The village of Orient is a refuge of quietness in the Serra de Tramuntana. It is a small village situated in a valley full of apple orchards.

The style and architecture of the houses of Orient, together with the quiet life that its inhabitants live, maintains the essence of the past of those lands. It is a gathering place for people who look for peace and quiet, for nature lovers and gourmets. Here, you can enjoy the delicious food of the region combined with the unmatched beauty and tranquility of these unique and unspoiled surroundings.

It is an oasis of complete calm even though it is only 25 minutes away by car from Palma de Mallorca, the bustling capital city of the island. The closest beach – at Puerto Soller - can be reached in less than half an hour. The valley of Orient is the ideal escape from the busy daily routine and the perfect place to rest, relax and recover from the stresses of the outside world.

Mallorca, Spain

A stunning Spanish island defined by dramatic mountain peaks, turquoise coves, and historic stone villages, Mallorca blends vibrant Mediterranean energy with quiet rustic charm across its diverse landscapes.

Yoga

We will be practicing a dynamic, sustainable, syrong, and compassionate Hatha yoga practice and flow, marrying together the traditions of Iyengar and Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. We will also weave in workshopping, gentle and restorative yoga, and Yoga Nidra relaxation.

We will slowly and mindfully weave our way through alignment-based practices each day, taking time to workshop asanas and come-see-come-look moments, allowing students to demo postures as we practice.

Expect a sustainable practice with longer holds occasionally, flowing, breakdowns of alignment and postures, and a focus on the breath. Classes are wonderful and appropriate for all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners and teachers. We ask students to be curious and expect to take a deep and joyful dive into the practice and their own inner ecology and wilderness.

Styles:

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Vipassana & Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Yin Yoga, General Yoga, Yoga Nidra

Skill Level: appropriate for beginner, intermediate, and advanced

Meditation

We will enjoy guided meditation and will explore the style of Insight/Vipassana and mindful meditation.

Within this style, we will explore a variety of methods, including breath meditation, heart meditations, including a compassion meditation and a metta or living kindness meditation. We will talk about the basics of meditation, finding a comfortable seat, and the roots of mindfulness.

We will take time to explore seat options, mudras, our breath, and begin cultivating a greater sense of connection and intimacy with our own breath and mind, and we practice befriending the breath and befriending the mind on and off the yoga mat.

At the end of the day, yoga is life; it’s how we are living and how we are meeting ourselves on and off the yoga mat, and we can’t wait to share an incredible time together living well, immersed in practice, nature, and community.
